The skin of the peach caressed his hand, soft as the hairs of a baby’s head. His wife regarded the luminous fruit with wide eyes, reaching out her hand to take it.

“Peaches? How did you get these?”

“You don’t want to know.” He smiled at her and took a bite, the flesh juicy and succulent, all the sweetness of summer in a single mouthful. His wife closed her eyes in bliss, pressed a hand to her belly, just beginning to swell.

“We’ll plant a tree.” Cicero leaned over and kissed Terentia, sticky fingers tangling in the curls of her hair.

The imagery of this is so vibrant, it's lovely.

You had me thinking it was Pullo and Eirene to begin with, but I was wrong, nice twist! And I like the foreshadowing with the planting of the tree.

Lovely drabble!

Thank you! It's hard to write about peaches in a non sensual manner - it makes me wish it was later in the year! The peaches in the store now are very sad.

Oh, I'm glad you liked the foreshadowing! The way David Bamber played the scene, you can tell the tree means a great deal to him. It snuck into my last story, too.

I don't think you ever responded to my discussion-started on the Rome series, but oh well. Nicely done! And Cicero's demise, though sad in a way, was nevertheless portrayed in a very novel and interesting way on HBO.

Thank you for reminding me! I just replied to your earlier post - I should really read over all my posts since the new year and check for unreplied comments.

And thank you for reading! Even though Cicero's death was certainly modified, David Bamber and Ray Stevenson (David especially) did an amazing job with the scene. It's certainly been the most beautiful of the many death scenes, and certainly the most poignant to me.

Pretty! And so sad, referring back to Cicero's death. But it's nice, good tone, and I love the words you use.

Thank you! I was aiming for sensually poignant, and am glad to hear the tone came out well.

I'm realizing it's impossible for me to write Rome!Cicero without Historical!Cicero sneaking in, especially when it comes to Terentia and Tullia (and Atticus, eventually), even if she was wee gestating Tullia in this drabble.

Thank you! And hey, if the Clive agrees...(speaking of, I didn't watch the Oscars, but I heard he was presenting. Did you catch him?)

Oooh, maybe once we finish the [livejournal.com profile] longpidcc ficathon, we could do drabbles. :)

I did see him. His hair's all curly and yum right now.

Drabbles would be fun! Very good idea.
