(no subject)
Sep. 16th, 2005 09:03 amTonight I'm going to a signing for Seize the Fire, a book I heartily recommend to anyone who has a love for the Age of Sail. And anyone who doesn't - get thee to a copy of Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian. It's literary crack, I promise, and that's the series that sparked everything for me. Alas, no reply from the Trafalgar Day query on Craigslist, but I'm hoping to meet some like minded fellows tonight. And if one of them was young and geeky-cute and wanted to go out for drinks after the signing, I certainly won't complain. But my obsession continues to grow - I've found two more books to hunt down - Nelson's Trafalgar and The Trafalgar Companion. My friend Jen picked up a surprise for me yesterday, a copy of Naval Warfare Magazine with three articles about Trafalgar! I gave this wonderfully girlish squee when I saw what it was.
Also reading a slew of other things - 'Round Ireland with a Fridge, The Fencing Master (
butterflydrming, I love this book! Have you read The Nautical Chart yet?), Hornblower and the Atropros (oh, a whole post is coming on that, sigh) and I'm still working through The Terror before Trafalgar. And then there's the stuff just waiting to be read - not to mention the pads and notebooks filling up with story bits.
