Only two days into my ownership, and Horatio already gave me a scare. I swear, if he trapaises off to Tenerife and loses his iSight camera...

Before Maritime History, I turned Horatio on to upload a few Word docs and print them out in the lab. I turned him off and slid him back into my bag, noting the light hadn't gone off yet but not really thinking about it.

An hour and a half later, I was back in the lab with my assistantship prof. I pulled Horatio out of my bag, to show him off and further convert my prof to the cause of Firefox, and I immedeatly realize Horatio is warm.

Very warm. Okay, he's hot. And he doesn't want to turn on.

I keep him open and talk with my prof about some new databases to mine, but I'm worried. $1,300 laptop and I take two days to break it. Afterwards, I plug in the powersource and press power. Nothing happens. My profesor leaves and I hit Google.

Ahh, evidently MacBooks do this all the freaking time. They don't turn off, they get hot and then they don't turn on. Taking out the battery seems to be the usual recommendation, so I take out the battery and wait for him to cool down. [livejournal.com profile] ainsley gives him an affectionate pat - I tell her Horatio has malaria. She makes a comment about Emma nursing him to health - it's corny, teribly corny, but I'm amused, even if I'm terrified my new computer is broken.

So, twenty minutes later, I put the battery back into a much cooler computer and hit power. There is a long, long pause, and at last I hear the triumphant Macintosh chord.

Right now, Horatio is propped up on two books so that the underside doesn't heat up and what happened earlier happens when I'm typing up my paper due, oh, in less than 12 hours.

But I still may leave Lady Emma plugged in a little longer tonight.

poor Horatio!! My Darcy is an ACER so I cannot give any macbook advice. I am sorry he was momentarily ill. I find the picture of Maturin most appropos considering the circumstances.

I hope Horatio had a good convalescence and Emma was nearby to help him through this tumultuous time.
