Futzing around on the Craigslist site tonight, bouncing between Denver and Minneapolis, I found this gem of a personal ad on the Denver site. Read it and weep for humanity - especially if this idiot finds the shallow woman he desires and decides to procreate.

Ew. (I'm interested to know what kind of brain-dead uneducated type would spend time 'composing music', though.)

I guess I should get my uptight (?) self back to my carefully controlled (?) life now.

Yeah, the composing music bit struck me as rather odd, too. I think he's pulling his definition of proper womanhood out of an 1880's manual, with a bizzare modern twist.

Though to redeem the non-distaff side of humanity, I did find this lovely little poem (http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/m4w/62360989.html) on the Minneapolis craigslist site and I admit, I am a bit tempted.

I can understand why that would appeal to you more than the one from your original post.

Hee, that poor boy will be so overwhelmes with responses! But swoon is an appropriate response indeed.

And I actually did reply to him (in haiku, of course!) so we'll see what happens... :)

Is this guy joking?

Sadly, I don't think he is. To me, there's too much bitterness and disdain towards educated women for it to be satire. Honestly, this shocked me more than any of the 'married couple looking for fun!' ads that used to be so prevalent on Yahoo Personals a few years back - certainly pissed me off that much more.

The things you find when you're on the computer and can't quite get to sleep..

Speaking as a guy who's hung around too many guys, I can confirm that there definitely exists the type of guy who actively does not want his lover to be his friend. They can only conceive of friendship as something that comes from other guys, and women are exclusively for sensual pleasure, since they're impossible to relate to and wouldn't understand any deep and meaningful "guy things" anyway. ([livejournal.com profile] hecubuscathead can tell you about an example of such.) Even as a straight male, I have a very hard time being more than a passing acquaintance to such a fellow.

It sounds like what this guy basically wants is a 21st-century geisha, except with fewer pretensions to culture.

Not that it excuses him in the slightest, because that is disgusting . . . but at least he's being honest. *shrug*
