shake rattle and roll

While indulging my insomnia and watching BSG, I felt an earthquake! It might sound crazy, but as a native Californian, I actually miss the ground moving under my feet every now and then. Also, two years of being a geology major still makes me go earthquakes=yay versus earthquakes=freak out.
*pats the fabulous earth*
But the USGS has this nifty feedback feature, and 1900+ people have already reported feeling the quake - certain questions tell you what intensity you perceived, versus what intensity it was. This was only a 4.5, and we're over 30 miles from the epicenter, so this was just a light little shake. I don't even think it woke my Nana up.

Date: 2007-08-09 10:32 am (UTC)Having grown up and living my whole life in Ohio, you'd think I'd never have experienced an earthquake. But I did. January 31, 1986, I was 11, there was a 5.0 quake here in NE Ohio. Boy did I feel it. I was standing on a chair hanging up essays in the hallway of my school. That was freaky! It also caused a shelf to pull out of the kitchen wall in my parents house.

The volcanic activity on the Big Island has increased lately. Some awesome pics and footage here:
