September and it's already the midseason break for the Gates! It will be a long couple of months, with two excellent cliffhangers and the knowledge this is the last season for SG:1.
Up until that last frame and the fakedy fake dragon, this was a brilliant episode. Daniel, giving up Chinese food to save the galaxy! How very valiant. The team dynamic (with a little side of Ba'al, deliciously snarky as ever) was very strong, and the little Sam/Vala moments made me grin a little bit more. And could Daniel and Vala again be any cuter? And could I love Vala anymore for packing a hair dryer?
Before I get to the last of the many good bits, there were a few weaknesses - the 'quest to solve the puzzle' is getting so very, very cliched, and hopefully the end of the two-parter will give it a nice tist to set it apart from all the Da Vinci Code-esque junk they normally do. Just how do they think this will seriously stop a pretty advanced enemy?
But back to the good, especially the Orici. Oh, she just makes an episode, especially with her creepy, creepy interest in formerly Ascended Daniel. Given some serious spoilers for an upcoming ep, I cannot wait to see what will happen with the two of them, even if I haven't the slightest clue of how they're going to get there. But I have ideas. And plot bunnies.
Oh, there was so, so much that I lied, but first, the nitpiking.
Stargate, your science continues to utterly ellude me, and so I give up on it bearing anything to the real world. And the Atlantean time frame just confuses the hell out of me, so I feel free to, oh, ignore it.
Now to the good, and the very good. The beginning was a brilliant setup - their moment of triumph turned into the beginning of the end. John and Rodney have their banter down to a fine, fine art - and a few others are joining in the game.
The scene in Sheppard's room? Oh, giddy, giddy squee! Ronon, I don't know how you did it, but I have grown to love you so much this season and that twirl just sent me over the edge. And Carson's goodbye, and his intervention with Elizabeth, and the reminder of the kiss, and the cell phone, and the turtles - you stole every scene. :)
And yes, my inner slasher loved John and Rodney's phone call. I can't help it!
The end was just perfect! Teyla so happy to see them and Ronon knowing something was wrong. All I can say is I cannot wait for 2007!
