We are back! San Francisco was just wonderful - and as a potential place of employment after getting my master's, it passes muster. The weather was a wonderful break from the hundred degree heat here, the food was exquisite (I could live on Peet's coffee and Boudin sourdough bread), and we did make it to the maritime museum - even mom had a good time there, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy. She's even excited about seeing the San Diego maritime museum!

When the computer is being less sucktastic I'll post the photos - of all the places we went I think the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate State Park was my favorite. After just a few minutes, it felt like your feet were just floating along the ground. My mom and I sipped a pot of green tea and nibbled on cookies, which was just the thing to do in such a beautiful setting.

Yesterday we watched the last bit of the France-Italy game, and let me say, my sister is such a little visual slasher. Watching her watch hot, sweaty soccer players cuddling up was adorable beyond words.

This week we're off again, to visit family in Texas, so I'll be sans Internets for a while. Hope you're all doing well and thank you for the b'day wishes!

Thank you for the lovely postcard with the pretty maritime paitning of a clipper on San Francisco bay!

I've found it in the mail this afternoon and couldn't suppress a happy squee at the sight (and then another, more fangirly squee at the mention of Gornblower dinner cruises)!

Have a nice time in Texas.

I really really want to go to San Francisco. One of the places in the States have always wanted to visit. I am glad you got a chance to get there. You seem to be blessed with the fortunes of traveling this summer.

the last time i went to san francisco, hiroshi and i rode the cable car, planning to get off at chinatown. but we were having such fun, we stayed on. i will never forget the view, coming over a hill, of the harbor and the maritime museum. it was such a surprise and so beautiful. we were only in the area for a week, but i think we visited the museum three times. even hiroshi, like your mom, appreciated it. as for the japanese tea garden, i have a funny memory of it. a father was there with his son, and i forget the details, but he (the father) said, 'look, there's scooby doo!' and hiroshi and i just laughed. it did not fit the surroundings at all. i think we also went there twice. yes, the first time was just before it closed. it was so beautiful and peaceful then. almost no one else was around. there is also a japanese garden in chicago that i am really looking forward to visiting. but now, i must return to studying for the gre. i am quite unmotivated tonight.
