With all the bones of tea and frescoes of Lord Nelson in my dungeon, I thought this would be a fun meme (ganked from

Date: 2006-06-29 04:49 pm (UTC)alrighty, reuben rolls. think of a spring roll and a reuben sandwich. then combine them so that the filling of the reuben sandwich is inside the spring roll (instead of the vegetables). then add thousand island dipping sauce and you've got yourself an irish fest masterpiece. because that's where reuben rolls are from: milwaukee's irish fest. they obviously aren't the healthiest things in the entire universe, but they're delicious and only come about every august so i figure what the hell!

Date: 2006-06-29 06:47 am (UTC)I live in Cleveland, right on the shores of Lake Erie, so Ohio wines are readily available. The best (and most award winning) winery nearby to me is Ferrante Vineyards. Amazing wines. And at around $6-20 a bottle, you can't beat it. (Their Vidal Blanc Ice Wine is $30, but a Gold Medal winner in several competitions- it's as good as Ice Wine gets.) There's also Debonne Vineyards, Lonz Vineyards, Firelands Vineyards, etc. (As a matter of fact, Lonz's Cream Concord dessert wine is the only wine I'll drink with a screw on top! And it's around $5 a bottle.) All these river valleys feeding into the Great Lakes make for amazing grapes. You can't get better Catawba wine than in Ohio. Believe it or not, Ohio wines do very well in wine competitions all over the world and are becoming well respected (finally) internationally. Just last week, there was a competetion of 10 varieties, comparing Ohio wines, California wines, and European wines. Ohio won 3, and tied or nearly tied in another 5. What it is, is that the vineyards here tend to be pretty small compared to CA. The batches aren't as big, so they aren't as widely distributed. You can get CA wine in any grocery store in OH, but you can't get OH wine in CA.
If you like wine, you should try some Ohio wines. I guarantee you won't be disappointed! I know both Ferrante and Debonne sell direct from their websites. (www.ferrantewinery.com and www.debonne.com) I recommend the Vidal Blanc Ice Wine, Jester's Blush, any reisling and both the White and Pink Catawba from Ferrante and Razzberry Reisling, Harmony and River Rouge from Debonne.
