Articles about the environment tend to depress or anger me, depending on my mood. This article did both, I suppose. London, New York, Miami, probably every little island nation, all underwater by 2100 due to rising sea levels.

2100. Less than a century away. Those are places your grandchildren will never, ever see. Central Park, Trafalgar Square, what's left of New Orleans in a hundred years, all gone and washed away. What the hell kind of world are we leaving for the people who come after us? What will they think of us, the ones who squandered their futures away?

I'm an environmentally conscious person, but something like this I find hard to get upset about, because for all their research and computer models, they're still just guessing. It might happen. It might not. And if it does happen, 20 feet in 100 years is two or three inches a year. And hopefully we're cool enough by now to be able to move historical landmarks so they're not lost forever. The world is constantly changing; some of it is our fault, and some of it isn't. We'll adapt, life will go on, and Kansas real estate will suddenly be at a premium.

Um...have a good weekend? :)
