Today's NaNo update is here - 1661 words. 29 more days to go - there's elation and fear in that thought right there. Good luck to fellow NaNoers - may your coffee pots and inkwells never run dry!

[livejournal.com profile] xeiga, hope you and everyone are okay and have power back already or will have it soon. Let me know once you're back on line, and you and your family are in my thoughts.

Longer update tomorrow, hopefully, as I don't have Welsh class in the evening. Hopefully tomorrow before bed I can sneak in a little reading, too - I just started Pride and Prejudice and I'm enamoured with it - if only we'd read this in my Modern England class instead of Mansfield Park!

This past weekend I read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and everyone who hasn't read it yet really should. I honestly think most of you on my f-list would really enjoy it, especially those of you into the Regency era or dark fantasy - or better yet, both! My Tolkien-philes will love the ficlets within the footnotes and [livejournal.com profile] butterflydrming, there's a description of a necklace made of heartache and regret that made me think of you - it sounds like something from one of your stories to me. So read, you won't be dissapointed.

No new nephew photos yet - they'll be posted as soon as my mom sends more!

Yet another reason for me to get cracking on Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, which we got almost as soon as it came out and haven't either of us dug into yet. Right now I'm tearing through Tom Wolfe's I am Charlotte Simmons, since it finally came out in paperback (and it's a little... well... I'll be posting about it), but I think I'll elevate JSaMN to being next-to-next after H. G. Wells' The Outline of World History.

The Outline of World History - sounds hefty! But Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell was as good as I hoped it would be - if ony I could have snagged a free copy from the freaking rep at Mountains and Plains. Oh well..

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE RULES!!! hehehe ^^;; basically i'm at the point where i can quote long sections of the a&e miniseries, and have three copies of the book, one of which i brought back with me sunday for comfort reading.

i know i need to read jonathan strange... my mom read it and enjoyed it as well, so we own it... the only problem is that it's so long and i'm having tremendous problems finishing even mangas now, so i think it is going to have to wait til summer.

It's so deliciousy snarky! I'm going to check out the miniseries from the library once I finish the novel, and then see the new movie coming out, which will hopefully be good - even if it doesn't have Colin Firth.

Oh, that's awesome your mom has read Jonathan Strange! Even if you have to wait for summer, which is totally understandable, I think you'll really like it.

all i have to say is that if the movie isn't good, i will be more than a little pissed off and will be venting for at least 3 days. and colin firth is dead sexy in that miniseries. i watched it for the first time the weekend before my spring exams freshman year and i remember how i couldn't stop watching. the only thing that lured me away was the prospect of breakfast at a machine shed. i think i'll have to re-read it before i see the movie... just so i can see just how much it differs...

thanks for thinking of us! we had no phone for three days and no power for ten. but the worst part was that mimi was sick. she is fine now, but with no doctor's offices open, we took a trip to the emergency room the night before the hurricane, then urgent care a few days later, then finally her regular doctor after that. it was an bad ear infection which caused her to vomit, then the antibiotics caused her to vomit. so, no lights, no washing machine, and half digested food covering the sheets in the middle of the night. traffic is still horrible because all the debris is being cleared from the roadside, but other than that life is back to normal. and at last i am catching up on-line!

I'm so glad you're all right! I was going to send you an e-mail and then I saw your reply with much relief! I hope Gamma doesn't even get close, and Minami is doing much better!
