I (heart) my baristas
Dec. 9th, 2004 11:30 amLately, I have become a little coffee whore to a chain which shall remain nameless. The shop by my work is staffed by some of the friendliest baristas, whom I just love. There's a very chatty, rather quirky guy and some very sweet girls, especially the one who made my peppermint hot chocolate today.
She called my name for my drink and I went up to get it. The barista, whose name I must earn, was clad in a poufy Santa hat and little jingly earrings. She went to hand me my drink and then pulled it off, taking off the top. I thought she had forgotten the whipped creme, perhaps, but there was already a healthy dollop. With a brilliant smile, she exlaimed "There's something I forgot!"
That something was little red sprinkles, which she dusted on with glee.
As someone who worked retail for three years I know being nice to customers is something that can be very difficult at times - especially during the holidays. But that little gesture was just so spontaneously sweet it really touched me, and made my hum-drum morning that much brighter.
