Finally, Paul Bettany will be in an adaptation of a quality piece of literature! I read on Rotten Tomatoes that he will be playing Lord Asriel in the adaptation of His Dark Materials. The article is here.

Speaking of movies, I finally caught Pirates on Monday. People, people, people, just because Peter Jackson made his movies reaaaaaally long doesn't mean you have to do the same. And in light of King Kong, Peter Jackson should probably save the long version for the extended cut. But besides its length, Pirates was a fun romp. And the new, scruffy Norrington? OMG, teh sexy! Lizzie, just hook up with him. Orlando is so very overrated. My mom and I caught The Break Up last night and it was a definite waste of money. For a so-called romantic comedy, there's no romance and less comedy - it's two people yelling at each other for two hours. Though it did make me want to visit Chicago.

Bookwise, I'm slowly making my way through Under the Black Flag. Next, I think I need to take a little fiction break, so I may try to track down Temeraire at the library.

But POB is quality literature, too! ;)

Paul Bettany as Lord Asriel also fills me with glee and squee, though.

*squee* oh my goodness, two of my favorite things ever in one package! if that movie isn't good, i'm going to be so depressed.

i second your "omg, teh sexy" for the new scruffy norington. he was undoubtedly the best surprise of the entire movie. i'm going to have to go and say he was my favorite character of the movie.

Gasp. Paul Bettany + His Dark Materials = love.
I assume they're doing all 3 books? Sorry, too lazy to read the article. -innocent grin-

And all I can say about scruffy!Norrington is as follows: -falls out of chair in a fangirly matter-

I read Under the Black Flag and was less than impressed. It just took too damn long and was really dragged out. Or something. I didn't like it.

Mea culpa, mea culpa! I should have said "another quality piece of literature." My loathing for the Da Vinco Code overwhelmed me for a moment!

But isn't it exciting?! Paul Bettany will be utterly brilliant in the part.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the book a bit slow. I'm almost at the end, so I'm just making myself finish it. Age of Sail-wise, I may read "Command of the Sea," which I picked up at the SF Maritime Museum.

I'm guessing they're doing all three - I need to read more on the films!

Is Nelson in the books? That would just make me giggle like the little Emma Hamilton I am.

Norrington definitely comandeered that movie and took it into a port of his own, eh?

I am with you on length. Too many octopuses. However, enjoy Bill Nighy pulling a Phantom of the Opera with barnicle-organ playing. How cool is that?

I stay away from anything even REMOTELY Jennifer Aniston, so the Break-Up is a no go for me.

I am enthralled that Paul B is going to be doing Pullman ( love that series )

Anyone hear anything ever about them making another M and C movie? Paul and Russell both said they would do one and Peter Weir once seemed eager enough.

I'm afraid, Nelson is not in it. :D You do know that Temeraire is the name of the dragon and the story has nothing to do with the ship. Still, I do like the idea of Dragon fighting squads during the Napoleonic Wars. :D
