A friend at work just gave me a belated Christmas gift - the Complete Horatio Hornblower on DVD! If I wasn't in a cubicle farm I would have shrieked and done a happy little dance.

*hugs her boxed set* Wheee! So any fellow Hornblower fans I visit in the future - these guys may be coming with me for vieing enjoyment! And non-Hornblower fans? Well, you're just not Hornblower fans yet.

anyways, yay for boxed dvd's!!! horatio hornblower is definitely something i need to start looking into.

I gave the set to Otter last year (2004), so if ever come to visit us, you don't need to bring it (or we'll just have two sets to choose from). I guess that means we don't need to bring our set out with us when we get around to come visiting.

Oh, and thanks for the Xmas goodies! We have a few things we still haven't managed to get to the mail yet...

You got your goodies! Yay! :) Hope you and otter liked the cookies (two of the kinds were Scandanavian) and you didn't already have the books. And the tea looked way too interesting and good to pass up!

And don't be in any kind of rush - it's nice to stretch Christmas out!

Both of us have looked at those books and thought about getting them, but never actually got them; now I can stop thinking about it!

We like the cookies, and Cat Head gave me a few tea bags of that very same tea a while back, so I already knew I liked it (it's nummy) -- again, now I don't have to think about getting it (for a while, that is).

And as far as stretching out Xmas, the stuff we have for you includes stuff from before this Xmas...such as the one before and a find from a few years back...

You know, I think your Christmas gifts from last year are around here somewhere. *chuckles* Hopefully they weren't perishable!

i just read an advanced copy of 'bad kitty' by michele jaffe, and i thought of you on page 212.

"'What kind of evidence can you get from a knot?'
'Maybe there's something special about the way it's tied,' I said. 'It looks kind of complicated. I think it might be a sailor's knot.'
'How do you know?' Polly asked. 'You've never been sailing.'
'No, but I have watched Horatio Hornblower every time it's on TV,' I told her. 'I am a storehouse of nautical facts.'
Polly muttered something about my only being interested in the parts where Horatio had his shirt off, while I used the scissors from her pocket-sized auxiliary sewing kit to cut the knot off.'"

i'm sure one day i will watch the series. maybe you will be induced to visit just to show it to me... and thank you very much for the cookies and tea! did you bake the cookies? i thought the wreath shaped ones were from the great scandinavian baking book. i baked some of the norwegian christmas bread. mimi helped. she kneaded some dough all by herself and did a great job! the tea is delicious. i think i've finished a third of it already. there are just crumbs left from the cookies...

*snerks* I have an ARC of that book too which I must read! That line is absolutely brilliant - and oh so very true.

I hope I can get out to Miami this year! It's been two and a half years, which is much, much too long. I just got your New Year's card and letter - the pictures of Minami are just beautiful! And yes, two of the cookies were from the wonderful Scandanavian cookbook - the cookies with currants are Welsh. Decided to get international with my cooking! And I need to back to the store now and see if there's any more of that tea left..
