It's October 1st and the NaNo site is up. And it's shiny and beautiful and the Dear help me, until it comes between those 50,000 words and my research papers, I think I'm going to do NaNo this year. I am alternately terrified and elated at the thought.

It's not that hard, actually; just turn your internal editor off and babble. Or, y'know, you could plan a plot ahead of time so you have something to write about.

It's not so much my inner editor that scares me - though I didn't finish last year, I got pretty good at putting any crappy text in parentheses and charging right ahead. It's the two twenty-five page papers due the first week of December that give me pause. So if my schoolwork starts to suffer, I'll stop, but only then.

I actually am doing a novel I've been kicking about a few months. Snowflaking it right now, and I may post some little bits up here or at the NaNo site. *still can't get over how beautiful it is this year!*

Ah. I see your point. *makes a note to get college applications done by the start of November*

I've known what I was doing, more or less, since June--it's a novel that I really wanted to write, but didn't have time/motivation to do earlier. Now I just have to find enough plot to fill the chapters and work out how to show character development, at which I pretty much suck.

It's tempting, isn't it? I'm doing it this year, but then again, it's my first November without finals...
