'a younfg woman who's never going to be a nun'

My Nana and I just watched 'The Sound of Music' - believe it or not, this was her first time watching it! This is one of the musicals that I can watch over and over and over again - the songs are enchanting, the scenery is beautiful, and Christopher Plummer makes my knees turn to jello. Captain Von Trapp, you can (insert naughty nautical metaphor here) me anytime.

Though I notice a few new things on each viewing. Like this time:

1. I can understand the Von Trapp brood all having perfect pitch, but all of the guests at the grand ball? I mean, were the greeters at the door pulling the guests aside and making them sing a B-flat major scale before they could come in? This process would also explain the majority of the screw of the HMS Surprise and the Russian sub in The Hunt For Red October.

2. When Maria comes back after running away to the nunnery, it's supposedly to close up whatever's between her and the Captain, but she brings the infamous blue dress and totally flaunts it in front of the good Captain. Pretty damn Machiavellian, if you ask me.

Also, thanks to a lack of frozen limade at the Asian supermarket, we made kalamansi margaritas, which turned out pretty damn tasty. Then again, Cazadores tequila makes a lot of things pretty damn tasty.

Oh Sound of Music! There was a time many years ago when I had to watch that movie every day (or at least some of it) to truly call it a day. And I always laugh at the guests with their perfect pitch. It really is too good.

Mmmm margaritas...

You do know I was once in that play, right? I can't remember if that's come up, but that's the origin of my interest in it.

I am so glad you had your Nana watch it! What did she think?

#1 - it's a musical. M&C and Red October aren't musicals, so that's a fair complaint. But you're not allowed to point out that everyone's a suspiciously good singer in a musical, unless you're willing to also point out the absurdity of everyone being a good dancer and breaking out into song at random moments. You can't start thinking about it or the whole musical world will fall apart!!! What will become of the Sharks and the Jets if they can't be a choreographed menace on the streets?

(You know, when I was a little kid I thought the nuns actually had a choir singing "How do you solve a problem like Maria" during her wedding, and I thought that was rather unkind of them.)

The singing in Red October really is beautiful. :D

But actually, the M&C singing sounds pretty reasonable. In any large gathering of random people heartily singing (like at church), usually the good singers drown out the bad ones. And usually the bad ones do KNOW that they're bad, and don't sing as loud.

Of course, it IS impressive that they're all able to stay perfectly on pitch throughout, without sliding down down, down flat flat flat like people casually singing acapella usually do.

Just now as I was scrolling through my flist, I read "a young woman who's never going to be a man."

Terribly sorry for the randomness, but is this Seryl? (This is Sylvian.) I was going to try to get my act together and send Rel a birthday card of some sort this year, but I think he's moved, though. Would you happen to have an updated email address for him?

This is Seryl - you guessed right! He did move - the best address to use would probably be darkestrike@gmail.com

Hope you're doing well - take care!
