'hey jupiter, nothing's been the same'

Some random observations from the past few days:

I am so, so glad I re-watched the 1995 Pride and Prejudice *after* I finished Rome - I was giggling and cringing (mostly the latter- it's such an utterly unsympathetic character) through each and every scene with Mr. Collins. Though I noticed some new things in the background - like Mary and Mr. Collins talking during the Netherfield Ball (poor Mary, she actually laughs and looks happy), and the almost conniving look in Charlotte's eyes when she invites Mr. Collins to dinner. Sadly, the special edition has hardly anything to make it special - only a featurette with the crew and two actors, David Bamber and the actress who played Mrs. Bennett. It's rather hilarious that they're both rather soft-spoken people, playing such flamboyant roles. But Mr. Darcy still makes me melt - especially puppy!Darcy at Pemberley with the smoldering gaze.

Now that I've sent my thesis update off, I'm waiting rather anxiously for the feedback. I had so much nervous energy I cleaned my sister's kitchen, top to bottom, when I babysat for my nephew on Monday.

My nephew, evidently, is now the biter in pre-school. He was pefectly fine for me, but then again, I can bite back. We read, a lot, shared some grapes, had an adventure playing sports games on the X-Box (we liked Madden 06 the best), and tried to learn the difference between the word tickle and tackle.

My mom's been in something of a mood for the past few days, and while I don't quite regret coming home for the summer, it's always far more trying than I remember. I feel like my mom's dumping post for all her grips about my nana, my sisters - I wonder who she goes to when she has to talk about me. My sister and I have the not-too-baseless fear that the strained dynamic between my mom and her mom will end up being repeated.

Anyway, happy belated Canada Day, and Happy Independence Day (in an hour) to all the fellow Americans on the list - and it's Horatio Hornblower's birthday, too! That so beats sharing my b'day with Ann Landers and Dear Abby.

Happy Birthday to you, and many returns!

(See -- even Mr Darcy looks at you in awe.)

*smiles incoherently at your icon*

Thank you so much!

I'd forgotten you share a birthday with Hornblower! (And as I believe in sending happy birthday greetings many times in many places, happy birthday to you!)

Thanks to BSG, I discovered I don't quite share a birthday with a Hornblower character, but I *am* six years younger than one Jamie Bamber, to the day. I can settle for sharing a birthday with those hipbones, and arms, and...wait. You haven't seen the towel scene yet. Oh, boy, are you in for a treat.

Thank you! When I found out about Hornblower's birthday, I was quite thrilled. But sharing a b'day with Jamie Bamber? Yum! I have yet to see the towel scene but I've seen pictures, and yes, yum is the word.

There is much fascinating about the towel scene--very, very much--but what possibly captures my interest the most is that, if I'm interpreting Lucy Lawless's words correctly, he managed to film the scene without blessing the cast and crew with the full frontal image. If so, that's QUITE a feat of towel-wrangling.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And ha, I didn't know Ann Landers and Dear Abby were also July 4th birthdays. Aww, I wish I had a nifty fictional character to share MY birthday with.

You know, I always wondered why Mr. Collins didn't attach himself to Mary. It seems like they'd be a great pair, really! I can't imagine anyone Mary would prefer. (I was going to say "I can't imagine anyone better for Mary," but then I realized that she'd probably flourish with someone fun and happy like Bingley who could draw her out of her stuffy shell. I hope she'll have an opposites-attract match.)

Hmm - there must be somewhere you can go to find out which fictional characters share your day!

And I was thinking of the same question - besides the fact that it wouldn't fit the plot, that's about the only reason. And the next time you watch it, watch them at the ball - it's rather sweet. But I wonder if any of the people who do post P&P novels have taken on Mary. Evidently, in one of those novels, Mr. Collins meets an imaginative death.

As we say in my choir (or shout, rather): HAAAAAAAAAAAPPY BIIIIIIIIIIIRTHDAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Ooo, ouch... little biting boys can be a pain (in more ways than one). I know because my brother used to bite people when he was angry (myself included). Of course, he's autistic, but still... biting is biting. I hope he overcomes that phase quickly!

I love choir birthdays! My family is tone-deaf and so Happy Birthday is usually somewhat painful. But with a choir, you have beautiful voices in tune and even harmonies!

We're finding out a lot of my family were biters, including my dad! Hopefully it won't come to my nephew being expelled from preschool, which would be pretty sad.

Yay, yet another Tori fan on my flist! :D

You may have told me this before but I'm scatterbrained. What's your thesis on?

[identity profile] artyartie.livejournal.com 2007-07-06 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yup! I've been a fan since high school (so over ten years now) - even my ex was a fellow Tori-phile. :)

Heh, my thesis is on sodomy in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. I've been locking all those posts, but they're all tagged - though it's mostly me whining about it!

Wow, that is such an amazing and unusual topic! I'll definitely have to check out your previous posts.

Eeee, I love your icon! I'm eight episodes into Season 2 of B5 and I absolutely loved that scene. Ivanovna is awesome - the actress who plays her doubly so. She came to a convention in Denver two years ago and was an absolute riot.
